Today was pretty low-key. I stayed in most of the day, crocheted, read books, and watched TV. Pretty dull, really. All my friends are working during the week, so there’s really no one to go see at the moment. Plus, I’m broke until payday, so I can’t really afford to go out just for the sake of it.
I did make a perfectly unhealthy lunch of fried potatoes with bacon and sauteed onions with melted swiss cheese on top. I can feel my arteries hardening as I type this. To compensate for that, I had a salad for dinner. In fact, dinner time was the only time aside from walking the pups that I ventured outside yesterday. I went down the road to Whataburger and got us something to eat and stopped at a gas station nearby to cash in my whopping $6 in lottery scratch-offs. I’ve been buying at least one lotto ticket in every state we’ve stayed in. I won five bucks in Georgia!
There was a stray dog outside the gas station, and he looked hungry, so I grabbed a can of dog food for him. By the time I came out of the convenience store, he was gone. I hope he’s okay. The store was only a few feet from a very busy intersection and then from the Interstate overpass (which he could get to by trotting up an embankment). The glut of stray animals here is NOT something I miss about Texas.
We had some afternoon/evening thunderstorms yesterday, but they didn’t drop much water. I did have to put up the awning because there were some winds along with the storms. I’m not taking any chances with that damned thing; it was too much hassle replacing it last time. I swear, if it comes off again, it’s staying off! I’ll just buy a new free-standing screen room and call it a day! Might be nice to have an over-the-door awning instead of the big one since what’s most useful about having an awning is not having to get rained on while I lock/unlock the door or when I poke my head out to look around.
I think tomorrow I’ll head to Gonzales early and just go to the viewing for Aunt Mildred rather than the rosary itself. I’d rather not drive back to SA in the dark if I can avoid it. Plus, it looks like we might get some weather tomorrow. I called John’s Flower Shop in Gonzales (the one I always use for funerals there) and ordered a pretty spray for my aunt. It will have Shasta and Gerber daisies mixed in. I like something cheerful for funerals. My dad had this beautiful casket spray made of sunflowers and wildflowers, very sunny, very country. He would have liked it a lot.
