Today was the family reunion. I couldn’t stay very long, but I needed to put in an appearance. I haven’t been in years, and I had promised my uncle I’d be there. I was glad I went. I got to see relatives I hadn’t seen in forever (most since my father’s funeral five years ago) and had some great home-cooked food. I even became Facebook friends with my cousin, Jessica! I hated to eat and run, but by the time we finished lunch, it was almost 2 p.m.
I headed back to Hillshade RV and helped Lex get the RV ready to travel. We got The Beast all hitched up and on the road by 4:00 p.m. We had to stop in Seguin for a few things, and when I realized we were probably going to get to San Antonio after the RV park office closed, I gave them a call to explain. They were very nice about it and left an envelope for me on the door with our receipt and all our information. The camp host saw us pull in and guided us to our site.
Only the “super premium” sites are shaded here, so while we have a pull-through, there’s not a tree anywhere near us. Let’s hope the temps stay below 100 for the next two weeks. I suppose we could upgrade and move across the way to the shaded sites, but it’s so much trouble. It’s hot, sweaty work getting this thing all set up. The sites are also rather narrow. We got our slides out, but the living room slide is just inches from the utility pole. Plus, I had to stand on the neighbors’ patio in order to hook up my water and sewer.
After we got settled in, I took a much-needed shower and then ran into town to grab some food. I was shocked to see how much growth has happened in the southern portion of Bexar County. I lived in this area about 8 years ago, and it was much more rural and isolated. Not it’s overrun with retail establishments and housing developments. I don’t think that’s necessarily a good thing.
I’m looking forward to reconnecting with all the friends I have in San Antonio over the next couple of weeks. I have missed them so! I’m also looking forward to getting mail again. It’s been over a month since we’ve left Baltimore, and in that time, we’ve not been getting mail. Instead, our friends Carrie and Kathy have been picking it up, collecting a week’s worth, packaging it, and mailing it to my friend Jason who lives here in the San Antonio area. I appreciate ALL of them helping us with this. I imagine by now the volume of mail has gotten a little ridiculous, so it will probably take some time to sort through.
I’m going to take my exhausted self to bed now and get started being a temporary San Antonian in the morning.
