Eagle RV finally came and installed the correct awning, a Dometic. It took nearly two months to get it done, and they still managed to cheat us (or the insurance company, depending on how you look at it). First they buy the cheaper and smaller awning and pocket the rest of the insurance money, making 16 new holes in our RV in order to install it. Then, after Lex called and demanded they do so, they ordered the right awning. It took them forever to come and get the cheap awning they put in, and when they did, they left the holes open, didn’t fill them with putty or anything. We had another repairman out to fix something else, and he saw the holes and filled them for us, horrified that Eagle RV had left them open to the elements.
Last week the installer showed up with the right awning, put it in, and took care of the holes. What we discovered after the fact is that all that was new about that Dometic awning was the cloth and the arms. They gave us back our old roller. If I’m not mistaken, the insurance company paid for the ENTIRE assembly to be fixed. So the dealer STILL managed to pocket money by cutting corners yet again.
We’re both pretty disgusted by the whole thing, Lex moreso. She’s the one who has had to deal with them the whole time. I think we’ve decided we’re not doing business with them anymore. That’s a shame, really, as they are the closest RV dealer to us, and the guy initially came across as pretty nice. I like keeping money in the neighborhood and with local businesses, but we don’t feel like we can trust this guy with our house.
I’m glad we found We Come 2 U RV Repair. The man who owns and operates the service seems like a straight shooter, and he’s not terribly expensive. I think we’ll be dealing with him from now on.
