I started putting the Frost King winterizing kits on my windows yesterday. I managed to get three windows done before I gave up for the day. It’s a lot of work!

Basically, I have to apply double-sided tape around the edge of the window frame, cut a piece of the heat-sensitive plastic to fit the window, stick the plastic to the tape, and then use my blow dryer to work out all the wrinkles and establish a tight seal. Doesn’t sound like much, but that two-sided tape is a pain in the butt, especially when there’s condensation around the windows (it’s been cold here lately).

I have to say, though, that the stuff seems to work. What it does is create a faux-double-paned window by using the plastic sheeting to create an air pocket between the glass and the plastic. Supposedly, the sheeting increases efficiency of the windows up to 90%. I believe it. The glass itself is ice cold, but the plastic is room temperature. The cold is trapped and can’t get to my toes and fingers! Yay!

I’m going to keep working at it a window or so at a time until I’m done. It’s supposed to warm up this week again, so I don’t want to shrink the crank-open windows just yet. I do have some weatherseal tape for those. They are pretty drafty, and the tape helps considerably.

I’ve been trying to figure out ways to keep us warmer this winter, especially Lex who has to be here all day for work. I found some nifty gadgets that I think will help. I know she reads my posts, so I won’t say what right now. Suffice it to say that she has some very cool (warm) packages coming in the mail.

Another item I ordered for us isn’t a surprise, though. I bought an Oxygenics Body Spa shower head. It’s supposed to increase water pressure so that our shower will be more like that in a stick-built home. I’m all for that! The shower isn’t bad, but it isn’t like a regular shower, either.
