Obviously, making the choice to live full-time in a house on wheels means giving up a lot of your “stuff.” Like more than half of your usual wardrobe. Which isn’t really all that bad, because (for me anyway) there are usually just a few combinations of your clothing that make your main outfits for the week, month, whatever. So I took my favorite shirts, my favorite jeans, pants, etc., and added in the a few more choices for good measure. I covered some of this talking about letting go of the multitudes of CDs I owned, but one of the things you don’t really think about are breakables.
MJ replaced the majority of our plates, bowls and glasses with plastic or Corelle, but there were a few things I couldn’t let go of and need a little extra care whenever we move the Beast:
- my blue pint glass with “geek” written on it (a gift for my birthday last year) – do I drink beer? Nope.
- my Waffle House coffee mug – do I drink coffee? Nope.
- my oversized coffee mug from our vacation at Lopstick Lodge this past January
People sort of gawk and can’t imagine letting go of half of their wardrobe, their other bits and pieces, almost all the furniture, but once you get started it’s really not that difficult. The hard part is making sure the things you can’t let go of are really the things that you can’t let go of. I picked a couple breakables that aren’t the smartest choices, but I’m happy to still have them. Even if they’re for items I don’t necessary drink, but they’re great for my juice, tea and the occasional Woodchuck.
