The RV repairman that the GEICO adjuster contacted won’t be coming out to fix our awning. Lex was trying to call and touch base to find out when we could expect him when she got his voice mail which explained that he wouldn’t be taking calls because he may well have H1N1, the swine flu. Goody. So we’ve contacted the RV dealer/shop nearby, Eagle RV, and Mike, the owner, has agreed to come out and take care of it for us. Lex has faxed him the estimate that GEICO got from the other guy, and Mike says he will do it for that cost, despite the fact that he charges more for labor than the other fellow. Decent of him, I think.
The RV business isn’t great right now, so they need whatever jobs they can get, especially small dealers like Eagle. I prefer with someone local, honestly. The dealer from which we bought our RV has a nice sales team, but the guys in their parts department are just plain surly, and I hate dealing with surly people. If I’m going to spend my money, I’d just as soon spend it with someone who can at least muster a smile and a kind word.
Not sure how long this is all going to take. GEICO has already cut the check and put it in the mail. I expect we’ll have it Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. With that check and $250 cash, we should have a new awning. Wonder how long it will take to come in once its ordered. I’d really like to get this giant sheet of vinyl canvas off my door and window. Getting in and out is a real hassle. I almost fell this evening trying to get in the door. I was trying to pull aside the canvas with one hand and was holding bags and a pizza box in the other and ended up leaning on the handhold so hard that it collapsed. I ended up falling against the RV but not off the steps, thank goodness. The pizza would have ended up in the middle of the yard if I had.
Once we get a new awning up, I’ll get a picture of it then promptly roll it right back up again. Not losing another one.
