Originally the plan had been to leave the park today, do the meetup with Comcast Thursday morning and when they were done, we’d head to NJ to spend the night (somewhere) so that we could get a few things fixed at the Camping World there on Friday morning.  To save on gas and hassle, we called the rangers and were able to pay for another night so that way we’d only have to drive the truck back to Baltimore and leave the trailer at the campsite.

First up today was going back to town and buying the singular size large canvas hat from Herb’s Bait & Tackle shop.  I decided against paying $10 more to get it from the website and the unknown of what sort of hat I’d be getting.

Then we drove out to Turkey Point to make the hike to the lighthouse there.  To get there you have to drive past the state park and through a private community.  Geek that I am I checked cell coverage.  Naturally, the private community 3 miles from the state park has all 5 bars and 3G.  So.. furthest out on the peninsula, excellent coverage, then heading inland 3 miles, next to nothing with the much slower Edge network for about 8 miles til you get to the main street in North East and then all is hunky dory.  Just weird and slightly annoying as I like to catch up on my RSS feeds just before bed and most nights it was taking a lifetime to download them all into the phone when I had service at all.

Turkey Point LighthousePlaqueGeekity aside, we parked at the trailhead out to the lighthouse and started the hike.  It was overcast and still fairly muggy and miserable, but manageable.  The hike took us a little over a half hour with us mostly surrounded on one side by incredibly steep cliffs that would drop you 100 feet or more straight into the Elk Neck River and the Cheasapeake Bay.  Gotta love a half dozen signs about the cliffs and PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!  About the time we got out there the sun had found its way out from behind the clouds, so that made the hike back to the car a bit slower.
