Ahh… To wake without an alarm blaring.  That’s just lovely.

MJ made breakfast of cornbread and bacon and we set out to explore Main Street.  It was nice to drive that windy/hilly road without the trailer attached.  Getting through that  yesterday scared the bejeezus out of me and I can’t say I’m looking forward to it when we leave, but once you get past it, it’s a straightaway into town on onto the highway.

Main Street was kinda dead on this Tuesday morning, no idea what it’s usually like.  We explored a coffee and tea store, tons of different whole bean blends, and loose tea.  MJ bought some herbal tea while I just milled around.  Again, another hot day in Maryland, so when we’d walked most of the way down the drag, I walked back and got the truck and parked it a little further on up the way.

By the time I caught up with MJ she’d explored a little grocery and bait and tackle shop.  She insisted that I go check out the hats in the tackle shop, swearing that I’d love a canvas hat she’d come across.

It turns out that she does kinda know me.  They’re put out by Real Deal Brazil, made from repurposed canvas off cargo trucks.  Each hat is unique in that some have patches where the canvas was repair and the different coloring, etc.  They only had one that fit my big ass head and I wasn’t too keen on it.  I’d have preferred one of the smalls, or x-larges they had with different color canvas and patches.  The one large was just sort of plain.  So I skipped it.

NautiGooseWe’d seen signs in town for a dockside restaurant called Nauti Goose, so we drove down and had lunch there.  Their claim to fame seems to be their prime rib and seafood buffet.  Sadly, it’s a dinner thing only and their regular menu seemed really overpriced.  Perhaps an attempt to recoup for the buffet.  Lunch was good, but definitely left feeling we paid way too much for what we got.

The city had built a really nice park, so we explored there before lunch.  They have a canoe and kayak launch, a really nice gazebo, playground, and a dock. So ever the cheese (me not MJ) MJ snapped a photo of me and us. MeUs Upper Bay MuseumWe tried to go see the Upper Bay Museum, but found it closed.

Finding it incredibly muggy, we called it a day after lunch and headed back to to the campsite.  MJ wanted to grab Otis and take a hike off into the park to discover the beach along Elk River.  It’s the one place where they allow dogs.  Meanwhile, I lazed about and waited…and waited…and waited some more to load the Real Deal Brazil website on the iPhone.  Not a great idea with only 2 to no bars and mostly no bars out here in the boondocks, but I’m on vacation so whatever.  It turns out the bait and tackle shop sells them for $10 cheaper than what you can order from the website and since the hats are all unique, you dunno what you’ll get.  So cheaper and I know what I’m getting.  I think I’ll have to go back and get that hat…

MJ and Otis came back from the “beach” and decided it wasn’t worth the hike after all.  The river was a bit stagnant there and apparently the trail to it was quite a hassle and unkempt, so I don’t feel quite so bad about missing that trip.
