I’d put in a call to Nick at Chesaco RV and had asked him if we could come up today and get a hitching/unhitching demo. He said it was fine if we could come right away, so we headed up  to Chesaco where we met with him and another worker named J.R.  They showed us how, on a real fifth wheel, to hitch and unhitch using Lex’s truck.  She got to back up, get hitched up, and get unhitched.  Afterwards, she said she felt a lot more confident about the whole thing.

We came home and right away Lex hitched up our RV.  We needed to get it leveled.  It had been slanting to the rear pretty badly.  After MUCH twiddling, we finally got it reasonably level using Lynx leveler blocks (they look like bright orange Lego pieces).  For some reason, the back of the RV felt really unstable, though.  Later we discovered that we just hadn’t fully extended the rear landing gear.  Once that was done, the RV was a lot steadier.
