Lex and I both slept like stones and woke up aching. Lex has managed to do something to her foot, so it’s been killing her. She’s Limpy McLimpersen, so I’ve been fetching and carrying for her where possible. Lex and I struck out yesterday to find desks. I let her sit in the truck most of the time while I ran around the stores. She did come into Office Depot to check out the desks and found one that we could afford and that she liked. I had to keep looking. My little corner of the living room isn’t very big, and most of the computer desks were too wide. I eventually settled on a computer cart that I got from Kmart. We brought them home, and Lex put them both together for us (she was able to do that sitting down for the most part). While she did that, I went back over to the apartment to get our laptops and my desktop PC. Since my cart was put together, I wanted to bring over the PC so I could get back to playing Trailer Park Tycoon.
I also took the dinette set from here in the RV back over to the apartment yesterday put it out by the dumpster. The table is wobbly and the upholstery on the chairs is stained, so I didn’t see any point in taking the time or effort in trying to find them a home through Craigslist or Freecycle. I figured if someone in the complex saw them and wanted them, they were free to grab them before Monday’s trash pickup. There’s still quite a bit in the house that needs getting rid of. I haven’t gone through the last of it yet, but I will soon enough, I suppose.
Once I got the PC home and hooked up, I discovered an unsecured wifi network with a pretty weak signal, but I was able to connect! Yay! Unfortunately, connection is spotty, so it’s not something we can count on.
We’re still frustrated by Comcast. They’ve shown no interest in getting out here anytime soon. I’ve got to call the landlord today to find out whether it’d be okay for us to have Comcast connect us at one of the other sites that already has hookups, at least until we can get them to come out and install the connection on our site. We’re running out of time. We’ve got less than a month left at the apartment, and it could very well take that long (or longer) to get any action here on our site from Comcast. Lex needs a secure, reliable connection here so she can work, and if Comcast doesn’t come through, we’ll end up having to get her a broadband card, something we were planning on doing anyway but were hoping to put off for a while since the monthly service is so pricey.
I managed to get the rest of the party decorations cleaned up last night. I knew the caretaker would be back this morning, and I didn’t want him to see the yard in a mess. Don’t want to get reps as bad tenants when we just got here!
Yesterday we munched on party leftovers, chicken/veggie skewers with rice, bread that Kristi brought, bean salad, and some of Sarahhh’s luscious potato salad. We’ve still got some of the potato salad, but I think I’ll have to break down and cook today. I’m thinking hot dogs are the way to go. We’ve got loads of them that we never actually cooked on Saturday.
