My day off for the holiday weekend and I’m … emptying sewage for the first time, more on that later.
In the morning, I went to the apt to pick up all the kitchen stuff MJ had packed up so far, and to swap out the laundry and dishwasher. MJ, Otis, and Mo stayed back at the RV to finish unpacking what she had left of her clothes. I stopped at Panera Bread and picked up lunch for us: two fuji apple chicken salads, broccoli cheddar soup for me and french onion soup for MJ. I’m really glad that Panera started offering that salad year ’round. It used to only be on their fall menu, but I had to write them about putting a stop to that foolishness, so they eventually did. I like to think it’s because of my letter.
After lunch, we tried to get the sump cover off so that we could install a new water filter, but needed to empty the water tanks because the thing was filled with water. So, we disconnected the water and turned on all the faucets and waited. Once water drained a little below the o-ring, we tried using the special wrench to get the thing off. And no luck. We gave up, but from draining the water, our holding tanks were full. For now, we’ll just have to live with the little filter we have attached at the hose.
I pulled on a rubber glove and went about pulling the plugs to open the tanks, black water first, followed by the gray water to rinse out the tube. We actually have two separate gray tanks, one for the bathroom sink and shower and one for the kitchen/galley. Oddly enough, it didn’t really smell until I opened the gray tank. The tank releases were easier to pull open than to close. Have to look into how to oil that sucker…
Also, it turns out that Mo loves the closet. We knew this from the apartment but hadn’t really given this much thought in how it relates in the trailer. When Mo wandered into the closets in the apartment it wasn’t a big deal because she could let herself out. Not so much with this new closet. We came home tonight and realized she’d been locked in there all day. So we really need to remember to start leaving the door cracked.
If I’ve forgotten anything it’s because I’m writing this two days later, though I do know that MJ unpacked the kitchen…
