…we’re always at home.

That message is one of the reasons we find this idea appealing. Over the course of my life so far, I’ve stayed in a number of different types of hotels and regardless of their plush-ness or lack thereof, I’ve always looked forward to getting back to my own bed, the familiarity of my home.

When we vacation, it’s not ever been about being away from the comfort of home, usually just our surrounds and day-to-day life.  Imagine getting away for a weekend, a week, a month, seeing new areas of the country and at the end of visiting museums, friends or family, you come home to your own bed.

That’s just one of many reasons why we’re trying this unconventional change in our lives.  Most people wait until they retire to try some RVing, but as the economy spirals downward, it’s pretty obvious that most people will not have the opportunity to retire in the traditional sense.  So we’re going to try to make the most of it while we’re still relatively young.  We’re not in a place financially to be able to afford a site-built home and an RV like many traditional retirees, so we’re combining the two.

Being able to sustain this lifestyle is a long shot, but given that MJ and I spend so much of our time together anyway, we’re willing to give it a shot.  No time like the present and all that.  And if for whatever reason, it doesn’t work out, we can still go back to “traditional” living.
