I signed the papers and got the keys and owner’s manual to our new “apartment on wheels today!” The dealer actually ended up knocking off over $1000 more from the total amount financed by reducing the cost of the warranty and eliminating a couple of other charges. The finance guy went over all the paperwork with me, talked to me at length about the four year extended warranty, and then proceeded to ramble on about his kid, of whom is is extremely proud, for nearly an hour. Argh!
After I was done putting my signature on a dozen pieces of paper, I went down to the RV to “visit” one last time before it goes into storage for six weeks. I unlocked my door, went in, opened and closed every single cabinet, drawer, and closet, counted all the electrical outlets (10), laid down on the bed, sat on the toilet, stood in the shower, and generally admired the thing and tried to imagine what it will look like once we and all our stuff have moved in for good. I think it will work; I really do.
I came home with this HUGE binder containing every instruction booklet for every appliance or moving or electronic part in the thing. Like a real house, the builders don’t make all the stuff they put in the trailer. They just build the trailer. Everything that makes it “go” comes from somebody else, thus the mammoth binder. So I came home $3,000 lighter but 10,800 lbs + a binder heavier today! I’m excited, so excited that I’m not feeling the pain of the financing situation. John who did the contract and all the paperwork gave me some really good tips for boosting my credit rating and getting refinanced at some point in the next year or so. Going to try to do that, definitely. If I could get the points dropped even a little bit, I’d be much better off.
So now we have a shiny, new truck and a shiny, used trailer, but we have no hitch. So our home is not particularly mobile at this point. Again, the dealer will move it to our site in July, so we don’t need the hitch right away. It costs $1200 or more to get the thing installed, so I’m going to have to save my pennies.
I put the dealer’s photos of the RV up on my Flickr account. I’ll get my own pictures in July once we have it moved.
I’m so relieved that’s all done. Oh, and today the lease renewal notice came from Taylor Park. Lex and I are REALLY looking forward to checking NO, we are NOT planning on renewing our lease. I think I might scribble in the word “hell” in front of “no” just for good measure. The apartment complex does one thing I like, and that is throw a garage sale every year and invite all the residents to reserve a table. We’ve got SO much stuff this year that we’ll easily fill up a table and then some. That will give us the chance to get rid of whatever is still left at that point. The garage sale this year is June 6, so that gives me three weeks to gather things together to sell. We’re making a lot of headway, actually. The house is already emptying out slowly but surely.
