We got approved for financing on the fifth wheel!

After work, I went over to the dealer, and our salesperson, Nick, took me through the RV again, answered some of my questions.  We went back to the office, and he showed me the bottom line.  In order to get the deal done, they dropped the cost of the RV from $26K to $17K!  The bank said they’d only finance so much, so the dealer dropped the price to meet what the bank would finance…AND they managed to get the four year extended warranty rolled into the deal.  The warranty was a must-have for me.  No warranty, no deal.  The thing is 7 years old and fairly well worn.  Something’s bound to break eventually.  So after the $3K I put down, I’m financing $18K.  Not bad.  Find me a house in Baltimore with air, heat, a roof, a floor, walls, and a door for $18K.  Not gonna happen.  Not gonna happen anywhere, really.

The dealership is going to store the RV for free until we’re ready to take possession in July, and if we don’t have a tow vehicle by then, they’ll move it to our site for free, too.  Because they’ll do this, we’re in no hurry now to buy a truck. Because we’re planning on moving into the RV in July so we’ll have a month to work out the bugs while we still have the lease on the apartment, I’ve got to scare up a whole lotta rent money by July 1 (like $2K worth).  I’m teaching the summer class, though, and I’ll be able to put a little aside from my paycheck every two weeks, so we just may make it.

Yeah, we got the one that’s Williamsburg blue, a little shorter, and a little older, but we ended up getting a helluva deal.  Hell, we ended up getting ANY deal, which I really was starting to think wouldn’t happen.  I had my Plan B all lined up just in case, and it wasn’t an ideal one at all.  Of course, I’ll miss not having the baby camper to hitch up to my car, but, hey, it means I don’t have to stay in this godforsaken apartment complex for yet another year!

So now we’re back to having about 11 weeks in which to divest ourselves of most of our possessions. We’ve made a good start, but we’re only maybe a tenth of the way there.  Much of the stuff we’ll have to wait to sell until we’re moved or just about ready to move (like the bed and the couch), and we’ll need the steam cleaner and vacuum to help clean the apartment after we clear out, but other things can start heading out the door now.
