But I’ll admit, I’m not as good at it as Lex is. She keeps saying I have to stay positive or I’ll jinx it, but my tendency is always to plan for the worst, so I’ve been coming up with Plans B, C, and D all weekend. Lex says I need to hold out hope for Plan A. I guess she’s right.
In the meantime, I’ve been working on the assumption that we’ll be moving this summer, so I’ve cleaned out the bookshelves, the DVDs, the CDs, and the VHS tapes. I actually took the CDs and DVDs to Record and Tape Traders last week and netted a little over $100 for a very small part of what I took in. The rest is still in a box in the back of the car. I went ahead and packed up the books and VHS tapes today, too, because Tuesday we’re having a “white elephant” sale at school, and I’ve got a table there. I plan to sell as much of it as I can to unwitting students with meager pocket change. Whorish, perhaps, but, hey, they’re getting real bargains! Whatever’s left, I’m taking to Second Edition in Columbia (it’s sort of the Half Price Books in this area), and I’m going to see what they’ll buy. Then, if there’s still stuff remaining, it’s going to The Book Thing in Baltimore (free bookstore).
I may not end up getting much cash out of all this, but anything will help. Most importantly, we’ll have significantly fewer books to deal with come July. Moving books is always the bane of our existence. We’re both avid readers, so we always have hundreds of the damned things. Every time we move, I get rid of boxloads of the things, but they always manage to find their way back into the house!
The destashing helps keep my mind off things a bit as well.
