The financing for our first choice didn’t come through.  :(

So now we’re trying to come up with plan B.

Here are the plan Bs that I can think of:
1) Buy an older, smaller travel trailer with the down payment money we have saved. Lex isn’t keen on this idea as she’s afraid we’ll end up in a leaky tin can.  I’ve scanned Craigslist and have come up with a number of possibilities.  That plan would be dependent on us getting a tow vehicle soon, though.  Gotta wonder if they’ll finance a vehicle for us if they won’t finance an RV.
2) Stay in this place another year and work on rebuilding credit and saving for a bigger down payment.  That sounds good on the surface (it’s certainly the cheapest option), but I’m sitting here with a migraine and just got to listen to two kids yelling outside my door for half an hour.  And the buffalo are roaming upstairs as usual.  And there’s still a gaping hole in my bathroom ceiling.  And the ants are back.  Where’s my rusty spoon? I want to scoop out my eyeballs.
3) Lease a house.  Sure, we could do that, but we’d just end up moving all our stuff again in a year or two. And the rent we can afford won’t get us much of a house, really, not in Baltimore.
4) Buy a house.  Not going to happen.  If they don’t want to finance us for a trailer, they won’t touch us for a house, either.
5) Move to another apartment complex.  So we can have more of the same that we’ve already got here…plus a new security deposit.
6) Go live under the bridge.  I’ve got the camping gear already, but Lex doesn’t care for “roughing it.”  Plus, she might have a hard time working from home in a tent.

I just don’t want to be stuck here another year.  And I’d really gotten excited about the whole RV thing.  The freedom it would give us to travel, to pick and choose our neighbors, to own the place we live in…all that would be great.

I’m sort of tossing around the idea of renewing our lease here (but maybe not for a year) and then using the down payment money to buy an old compact travel trailer…one light enough to be towed by one of our cars or maybe a lightweight truck. Believe it or not, even my little Golf can tow 1,000 lbs!  And yes, there are trailers that tiny (most of them don’t have bathrooms, though).  Even so, get one of these little things and take off for weekend trips as often as we feel like it.  The dogs can still come along (though the cat may have to stay home), we can still sleep in someplace besides a hotel.  We’d have to stay at parks that have shower facilities, though.  If I knew I wasn’t stuck here at home all year (especially not all summer), I could be down with that.  I don’t know about Lex, though.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens next…
