So last night after Lex finished working, we visited two RV dealers near us, Brooks Ramsey RV and Chesaco RV. Lex hadn’t been in an RV before; she’d only been looking at websites and the brochures I brought home. After touring what seemed like dozens of the things, she decided she’s in love with the big fifth wheels (look like a big gooseneck trailer where the bedroom is generally up a few steps and over the top of the gooseneck so that it sits on the back axle of the towing vehicle). Of course, we both loved the really expensive ones that we can’t possibly afford. That had ridiculous amenities in them: built in vacuum system, laundry chutes, huge flatscreen TVs, a kitchen to die for, Lazy Boy recliners…you name it. Below is a picture of a Keystone Everest 34 foot fifth wheel. MSRP $66K. Way outta our range, but we drooled all over it! There are some that we liked that were significantly cheaper, and I think by July if some of those are still sitting on the lot, we’ll be able to get a really good deal on them.
So we left the dealers with a much better idea of what we did and didn’t like and how much money we were talking about.
Now we’re back to the problem of finding a place to put the damned thing. The saleslady at Chesaco told us about a trailer park nearby that allows RVs. I went to visit it today while I was out running errands. It was really cute in an old, down-in-the-heels way without being totally trashy. It’s the kind of joint where you could stick a pink flamingo on your lot without any irony whatsoever. I found the park office and went into talk to the 88 year old owner, Irene. She was just as sweet as she could be, and we got on famously. Then I told her about the dogs. She told me she’d have to talk to her son and daughter who actually run the place. She called back just a bit ago and told me that it’s a no go. The place where she would have put us is in a no-pet, no-kid zone, and she didn’t want to break her own rules.
*sighs* I really liked that place, too, and it was only $325 a month and only ten minutes away from the college. Dammit. This is going to be difficult. When we get back from SA I’ll start calling more mobile home parks to see if they take pets and RVs. I think in order to find a place we can live we’ll have to live somewhere we don’t particularly care to live.
